Partnership marks up ‘wins’ in 2011

STOCKTON – Keeping a business in the area is just as much a win as drawing new businesses.

The San Joaquin Partnership in its Economic Views newsletter for February pointed to 14 “wins” in 2011, which means more jobs and output for San Joaquin County.

“We are extremely proud and excited with the quantity and quality of the projects in 2011,” Mike Ammann, San Joaquin Partnership president and CEO, said in the Economic Views notice. “During a challenged economy, this number of projects is an outstanding accomplishment not only for the Partnership, but for our many partners throughout the county.”

A recent study “Economic Impacts 1992-2011” by Applied Development Economics (ADE) shows the estimated economic impacts – with direct, indirect and induced jobs – of the 2011 wins are 3,028 with total industry output of more than $500 million and labor income of over $158 million, according to the story.

Ammann pointed to two projects as examples: Community Fuels in the Port of Stockton expanded its production from 13 million to 73 million gallons annually and the joint venture of Feralloy Corp. of Stockton with Pyramid Mouldings to create Feralloy Pyramid Structural Solutions to make custom metal frames for solar panels.

“It’s great to bring new business to San Joaquin County,” Ammann said in the Economic Views, “however, existing businesses are the backbone of our economy and their growth and prosperity says something positive to the rest of the world about opportunities here. … The San Joaquin Partnership can spend countless hours marketing and recruiting new companies, but we must realize that our existing companies are a base of economic stability in San Joaquin County and we must work just as hard to help them be successful here.”

The “wins” – whether it be a new business, retained business, expanding business or pending construction – included ACX Pacific Northwest Inc., American Biodiesel (Community Fuels), and Gavilon LCC at the Port of Stockton; Citadel Broadcasting Co., ECS Refining, Feralloy Pyramid Structural Solutions, Large Distribution Project, SCAFCO, and World Class Distribution Inc., in Stockton; American Custom Meats and Hollingsworth Logistics in Tracy; Owens and Minor near Tracy; Inweld in Manteca; and the Veterans Affairs medical facilities in French Camp.
