Ren Acquisition Inc., a private investment company headed by Argentine oilman Alejandro Pedro Bulgheroni, recently acquired Amador County's Renwood Winery out of a bankruptcy reorganization.

Founded in 1993 and a noted producer of zinfandel, Renwood has a 65,000-square-foot winery and tasting room in Plymouth.

The reported purchase price of nearly $7 million included the Renwood brand and existing inventory.

Winemaker Carlos Pulenta, who along with Bulgheroni owns Bodega Vistalba, a winery in the Mendoza Valley of Argentina, will act as an adviser and consultant to the Renwood operation, while incumbent Renwood winemaker Dave Crippen retains his position.

Jamie Lubenko, executive director of the Amador Vintners Association, applauded the change in ownership as a sign of the area's growing prominence as a premier wine-producting region.

"The acquisition of Renwood by RAI is one more indication that Amador's time has come," she said.
