Although facing a decrease in allocated federal bloc grant funding, the Tracy City Center Association is moving ahead to provide a landmark sign or signs to identify the downtown business area.
Originally, the federal grant approved by the county and city for the project was for $137,000, but federal officials reduced that figure to $75,000.
At a recent meeting, a landmark sign task force of the TCCA selected Arrow Sign Co. of Oakland to design and install the signage, reported Jan Couturier, manager of the downtown association.
She said design and location decisions regarding the landmarks are expected to be made, following a public forum, sometime in the fall with construction scheduled next spring.
Couturier said the project is designed to help promote the economic development of Tracy’s central core.
