Rail Dock Construction Begins
The Castle & Cooke Cold Storage Facility, which opened in May 2009, has begun the construction of their rail dock which will allow for the transload of refrigerated goods. The facility is co-served by The Union Pacific and The BNSF Railway through the Central California Traction Company (CCT), the Port of Stockton’s Short Line Railroad.
The rail dock will be “Cold Chain Compliant” keeping perishable and frozen foods at their proper handling and storage temperatures. Product will then is placed into cold storage, cross-docked for export containerization loading or loading outbound trucks for domestic distribution. The completion date is schedule for May 2011.
This Premier Transload facility has variable temperature rooms for different commodities, in addition to, blast freezing and high pressure cooling capabilities for further processing and value-added services. These services are used by local Ag Producers to extract heat from their crops prior to shipment and for food processors and manufacturers who freeze, store and ship products to international and domestic markets.
The Container on Barge will play a pivotal role in improving the supply chain movement of Mid-West exports through the Port of Stockton for shippers who over-weight containers. Shippers gain additional freight savings in topping off export containers with maximum cargo capacity. Shippers can also store products for consolidation at our facility where the containers will be over-weighted and loaded on the Barge for delivery to Oakland. The Barge will travel on the Marine Highway some 7.5 hours later, not stopping at truck scales and eliminating highway truck traffic.
The BNSF Railway is offering 4 day expedited railcar service from the Port of Stockton to the Hodgkins, IL Transload Center just outside Chicago and access to major connecting interstates. Mid-West Shippers will have the capability of a supply chain that is price-consistent, has equipment availability and state of the art warehousing to manage the end to end needs of its customers. This rail connection provides shippers a cost–effective means to meet the increased demands placed on their current supply chain due to increasing fuel costs and equipment capacity issues.
